Experienced Energy Program Director Joins PowerOptions

New Director of Research and Program Development Announced

Boston, July 13, 2011 — Brian A. Tracey, an energy industry professional and engineer with top-line experience in private sector energy generation projects and government regulation, has joined PowerOptions as its new Director of Research and Program Development.

Tracey, of Medfield, helps expand the group of energy experts leading PowerOptions, the energy-buying consortium for 500 non-profit institutions in the Commonwealth, including many hospitals, universities, municipalities and other entities. Tracey comes to PowerOptions from GenPower Services, where he served as Senior Project Engineer after working as an energy consultant and, previously, for the Massachusetts Division of Energy Resources.

As Director of Research and Program Development, Tracey will play a key role in supporting the development of new programs at PowerOptions, including its new industry-leading solar program, as well as administering the existing energy supply programs.

“Brian Tracey is a key addition to our small but experienced and extremely talented staff at a critical time,” said PowerOptions CEO Cythia Arcate. “Brian brings a wealth of experience – both hands-on and extremely analytical – and can offer our members the kind of knowledge, experience and analysis they have come to know and expect from PowerOptions in the dynamic and complex energy marketplace.”

Among other duties, Tracey will manage PowerOptions new solar program, which was recently announced with the issuing of a Request for Qualifications from developers seeking to build solar facilities on land or buildings owned by non-profit institutions. The institutions could then benefit from the cleaner power the program would provide.

Prior to joining PowerOptions and his previous work at GenPower, Tracey worked as an energy consultant to La Capra Associates in Boston, as Energy Technology Director for General Compression, Inc., in Newton and as a Senior Gas and Power Analyst for the Massachusetts DOER, among other roles.

Tracey is the author or co-author of several significant reports on energy trends. He received a Masters of Science degree from Columbia University in 2000 and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of Michigan in 1996.
